A guide for our families

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Cared for. Listened to. Protected.

Practical guidance for the moments that matter: feeling unwell, taking medicine, eating, resting and staying safe. Find out what to share, what to expect and who to contact.

Everyday care

The essentials for your family

Open each topic for a short explanation. Save the bilingual parent guide to keep all six care topics and the five safety and privacy summaries together.

This is a parent summary of our nursery policies, not the full operational documents or medical advice. Ask management for the relevant full policy and discuss individual care with the nursery and your child’s clinician.

Attendance & authorised collection

Child protection & safeguarding

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard and respected.

What parents need to know
  • Raise a concern about a child’s safety or possible harm immediately with the Nursery Manager, who is the Child Protection Coordinator. Do not wait for a routine meeting or complaints deadline.
  • If the Manager is unavailable or the concern involves them, ask for the Deputy Child Protection Coordinator. Concerns may relate to events inside or outside the nursery.
  • Information is handled sensitively and shared only as needed to protect the child and meet reporting duties. Absolute secrecy cannot be promised when a child may be at risk.
  • Discuss photograph and media permissions at enrolment and tell the team about changes. If a child is in immediate danger, contact emergency services first, rather than waiting for a nursery reply.

Illness & infection prevention

Knowing when to stay home, and how to return.

What parents need to know
  • Keep an unwell child at home and notify the nursery promptly. Fever, repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, an unexplained rash or a suspected infectious illness need discussion before attendance.
  • If your child becomes unwell at nursery, they remain supervised while the team contacts you to arrange collection and advises you to seek medical assessment. Keep emergency contacts reachable.
  • The nursery policy requires at least 24 hours without fever and without fever-reducing medicine before return, with symptoms resolved and medical clearance where required. Confirm return with the nursery; condition-specific health advice may require a longer absence.
  • Provide current immunisation records, report infectious diagnoses and follow outbreak notices. Support handwashing and avoid sharing your child’s personal items. This attendance guidance is not a diagnosis or treatment plan.

Medication & individual care

Clear consent and instructions before any planned medicine.

What parents need to know
  • Speak with the nursery before bringing medicine. Complete a separate signed consent form for each medicine and provide the prescription or clinical instructions required by the policy.
  • Hand medicine directly to the responsible team member in its original, clearly labelled packaging. Check the child’s details and expiry date with the team. Do not leave medicine for children to access.
  • For allergies or ongoing health conditions, agree an Individual Care Plan supported by the treating clinician. Tell the nursery promptly about changes; dose changes need updated clinical instructions and consent.
  • Authorised staff record administration and notify parents the same day. Ask how to receive the record and arrange collection of unused or expired medicine. This guide does not provide medicine doses or treatment instructions.

Food, nutrition & allergies

Comfortable mealtimes, with your child’s needs understood.

What parents need to know
  • Share allergies, dietary restrictions and feeding needs before your child starts, and update the team whenever these change. Agree any individual feeding or allergy plan with the nursery.
  • Check the nursery’s food guidelines before packing meals or sending celebration food. Label your child’s food and bottles and use the agreed storage arrangements. Children do not share food.
  • Discuss milk feeds, expressed breast milk and any feeding changes directly with the team. Feeding records and last-feed information support the handover between home and nursery.
  • Mealtimes are calm and unhurried. Children are encouraged, not forced or shamed, and food is not used as a reward or punishment. Ask the team about your child’s eating or any concerns.

Personal care & toilet learning

Kind, private care that respects readiness and dignity.

What parents need to know
  • Personal care is carried out respectfully, with explanations appropriate to the child and privacy protected. Changing and toileting areas are not filmed.
  • Provide agreed care supplies and labelled spare clothes. Tell the team about skin sensitivities or care needs; creams require the appropriate signed consent.
  • Toilet learning starts when the child is ready and follows a shared home–nursery plan. Children are not pressured, punished or shamed for accidents or setbacks.
  • The team shares daily care updates and discusses concerns privately. Soiled clothing is bagged, labelled and returned to the family rather than washed at nursery.

Safe sleep & rest

Supervised rest, with safety before preferences.

What parents need to know
  • Share your child’s sleep routine and needs using the sleep preferences and consent form. Update the team when needs change. Individual preferences are followed only when consistent with safe practice.
  • The nursery’s infant sleep routine uses a clear, firm, flat sleep surface and places infants on their backs. Loose bedding, pillows and soft toys are kept out of infant sleep spaces.
  • Children remain under staff supervision while resting. Monitoring devices do not replace an attentive adult, and routine sleep is not provided in car seats or rockers.
  • Check with the nursery before sending bedding or comfort items. The team records sleep and shares a summary at collection. Discuss any medical sleep needs with the treating clinician and nursery before attendance.
Safety & trust

What families can expect

The parent-facing parts of our care, emergency, incident, risk and surveillance policies, without internal security arrangements.

Duty of careShared information supports consistent care.
  • The team’s responsibilities include supervision, respectful care and responding to health and safety needs. Families help by sharing accurate health information and following agreed arrival and collection arrangements.
TMCG-POL-DOC-01
Emergency communication & collectionStay reachable and follow the nursery’s instructions.
  • Keep emergency contacts and authorised collectors up to date. During an emergency, follow official nursery messages about the collection location and timing; children are released only to a verified, authorised adult.
  • The team prioritises immediate safety and contacts families through the approved communication channels. Internal response plans and security procedures are not published here.
TMCG-POL-EM-01
Accidents & incident follow-upClear information, sensitive communication and follow-up.
  • Parents of an affected child are informed promptly after an incident and receive follow-up information about their child. If notification could put a child at further risk, the team seeks guidance from the relevant authority first.
  • The nursery records and reviews incidents and explains relevant next steps. Ask management about your child’s incident record; other children’s personal information remains confidential.
TMCG-POL-IM-01
Everyday safety & risk managementThoughtful checks before children explore.
  • Activities, equipment and the environment are checked for risks, with adjustments for age and individual needs. Share relevant allergies, medical or additional support needs and report any safety concern to the team.
TMCG-POL-RM-01
CCTV & privacySecurity with respect for children’s privacy.
  • The surveillance policy limits CCTV to safety and security purposes, with restricted access to footage. Toileting, changing and breastfeeding areas are excluded from filming.
  • Ask management about the privacy notice, consent process or a concern involving your child. Parent live viewing, copies of footage and a live-streaming service are not offered by this website.
